The French program at UUM starts in the 3 - 4 year old classrooms and continues in the 4 - 5 year old class. It meets for 15 minutes once per week. Songs and games are used frequently for learning and review. The goals of the program are: 1) to expose children to the concept of foreign language - that people in other places speak differently than we do, 2) to teach children high frequency words and phrases (colors and numbers, for example) that they can potentially use in school situations, and 3) to provide children with opportunities to have fun with language.
